In this episode of Naturopathic Futures, we sit down with naturopath, researcher, educator and integrative oncology practitioner Manuela Boyle to explore more than three decades of naturopathic practice and what the profession needs as it continues to evolve.
Manuela shares the journey that has taken her from naturopathic medicine and academia into research, integrative oncology, education and mentoring. We explore how her work with cancer patients has shaped her approach to care, and why she believes clinical knowledge is only one part of being an effective practitioner.
Together, we unpack the importance of human connection in healthcare, the difference between information and knowledge, and why the fundamental principles of naturopathic medicine remain relevant alongside research, evidence and modern healthcare.
In this episode, we discuss:
• How Manuela’s career evolved from general naturopathic practice into integrative oncology, research and education
• Why practitioner-patient connection and truly seeing the person behind the diagnosis matter
• The role of evidence, research and academic rigour in the future of naturopathic medicine
• Working collaboratively with medical specialists and creating shared-care models for complex patients
• Why the future of naturopathy lies in retaining its fundamental principles while continuing to develop as a profession
This conversation offers a thoughtful look at how naturopathic medicine has evolved, where it may be heading next, and the role practitioners can play in keeping individualised, human-centred care at the heart of the profession.
